Many already earn a living in what’s called P2E (play to earn) NFT games all over the world. With this space only expected to grow in 2023, we’d like to show you our top picks.
Which NFT games can we expect to grow in userbase over the next year and 5 years into the future.
The good news is that you don’t need an Xbox or a Playstation, but you might need a gaming PC as these games develop.
A word of caution: We know that NFT games are very new right now and that there are unfortunately a number of scams out there. Please be careful when signing up to projects and games.
There’s a lot of fun to be had and a lot of good games out there but it doesn’t mean that bad people don’t exist. Don’t put your lifesavings into some brand new game just because it’s hot.
Do your homework and make sure that the project has a legit team behind it.
NFT Games To Play
Arguably the biggest NFT game is Axie infinity. With a huge user base that was built in a down year of crypto, it’s pathed the way for many others just like it.
But since they proved the model of play to earn with such success, it’s pathed the way for a whole host of NFT games just like it.
We think that these games are only going to grow in 2023 with new users coming from across the globe.
So without further ado, here’s our list of games to help you get started in this play to earn economy.
Star Atlas
Star Atlas Specifications:
- Genre Sci-Fi
- Engine: Unreal Engine 5
- In-game Currency: $ATLAS,
- NFTs: Almost everything! (Ships, land, mining platforms, etc)
In their own words, Star atlas is “A grand strategy game of space exploration, territorial conquest, political domination, and more.”.
Currently, this game is only in its ‘mini’ form as a browser game. Designed to let the community start earning ATLAS coins and build their hunger for more.
Built on the Solana blockchain, this is undoubtedly one of the most hyped NFT games to come out this year, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on its development.
This game takes place in the metaverse and uses unreal engine graphics: it sounds like a recipe for success. However, this project has had a tendency to overpromise and underdeliver, so we shall see what it looks like in full form this year.
Expect big things from this game!
REASONS TO PLAY:
- Unreal Engine 5 usage
- Democratic voting system for future updates ($POLIS)
- Able to play at your own pace
REASONS TO AVOID:
- Unable to see what the finished product will look like.
Blankos
Blankos Specifications:
- Genre Party
- Engine: Mythical’s blockchain-based game engine
- In-game Currency: Moola/Blanko Bucks
- NFTs: Characters, spray cannons, accessories, etc
Designed from the ground up as a collectible-assets blockchain game where the users will interact with assets called Blankos.
So far Blankos has been regarded as one of the best NFT games to actually play as it’s relatively bug free and smooth.
It’s been created by mythical games with funding of $120M so far so you’d expect that with this kind of funding.
Blankos was actually started as a tech demo and it was supposed to be a way for Mythical Games developers to demonstrate their NFT marketplace to potential corporate partners, however once they realised its potential they morphed it into what it is today.
With a strong community, we think Blankos is one to play and watch in 2023.
REASONS TO PLAY:
- Various characters
- Freedom to create own games
REASONS TO AVOID:
- Lack of game modes
Mir4 – MMORPG
Mir4 – MMORPG Specifications:
- Genre MMORPG
- Engine: Unreal Engine 4
- In-game Currency: Darksteel/Draco
- NFTs: Characters
Built by Wemade Mir4 MMORPG takes inspiration from the orignial legend of MIR MMORPG released in 2004. The biggest difference with this new games and the original would be the graphics. As this is powered by unreal engine the graphics are truly stunning.
The graphics and the gameplay are without doubt the best part about this game. It’s fun to play despite some early bugs. The level of detail is truly admirable.
The blockchain element to this game is still rather new but it’s been expanding rapidly along with it’s user base.
This brings us to some of the limitations of the game so far: such as players not being allowed to convert draco to BTC unless they hit level 40. Some may say that this is just part of every game but it has caused some frutration for many players.
Despite some poor stream reviews, the game is already proving very popular with over 20,000 players!
REASONS TO PLAY:
- Multiple character classes
- Good action combat.
REASONS TO AVOID:
- Time-gated content
- Several hackers
22 Racing Series
22 Racing Series Specifications:
- Genre Racing
- Engine: RevGen
- In-game Currency: NA
- NFTs: Cars/Car accessories
This blockchain racing game was created with one goal in mind. To create the most exciting multiplayer racing NFT games around. As players race against each other, they can attack their opponents to slow them down or distract them from winning the race.
Overall it’s proving to be a great game that’s enjoyed by racers. It’s truly competitive and fun to play with a smooth operation and some skills required.
In their own words, it’s like Gran Turismo meets wipeout in terms of gameplay.
Due to the steam terms being updated on NFT games in October 2021, it appears 22 Racing Series is hitting a few speed bumps (pun intended), but thanks to its gameplay, we think it should gain some traction.
This makes it more exciting for all involved and gives players the chance to win rare items. It’s already proving very popular with over 15,000 players.
REASONS TO PLAY:
- Fingerprint encryption
- Decent speed
REASONS TO AVOID:
- Cheaper alternatives available
DeFi Kingdoms
DeFi Kingdoms Specifications:
- Genre Simulator
- Engine: Unreal Engine 5
- In-game Currency: JEWEL
- NFTs: Heroes
DeFi Kingdoms is an NFT game, but it is also DeFi (decentralized finance). The crypto collectable aspect is one of several mechanisms in the game that rely on decentralized finance. As part of its greater vision to promote the use of these financial instruments for gaming purposes.
The company behind DeFi Kingdoms have deep ties with the crypto gaming community and believe that many decentralized finance tools should be able to create value within the context of a game.
DeFi Kingdom is offering its own version of NFT tokens, called Heroes. These playable heroes can go on in-game to find you tokens. Many argue that Defi kingdoms is one of the few games truly taking on axie infinity.
Axie Infinity & DeFi Kingdoms are the two of the biggest crypto games right now, but they are very different in the way they go about getting to their numbers. Axie has 7x more users than DFK, and yet only does 0.7x more in volume.
We think Defi kingdoms is going to grow throughout 2023 so if you like adventure games like this it’s worth playing.
REASONS TO PLAY:
- Fingerprint encryption
- Decent speed
REASONS TO AVOID:
- Cheaper alternatives available
Alien Worlds
Alien Worlds Specifications:
- Genre Sci-Fi
- Engine: NA
- In-game Currency: Trilium/WAX
- NFTs: Binance Mission
One of the hottest Play to earn games right now is Alien Worlds.
These NFTs can be used for special missions and quests. The rarer the NFT is, the harder it will be to find and more exclusive the mission! Note that most of these NFTs are tradable on third party exchanges.
Players can also ‘mine’ TRLM by playing Alien Worlds. All you have to do is invest in WAX and stake it for CPU, which is needed to be able to mine. If at any time you decide you don’t want to play anymore, you can unstake the WAX and sell it to recover your initial investment.
Different planets have different starting conditions such as gravity, resources, and even oxygen levels! Players must maintain their ships constantly; otherwise, they could easily lose them! Players who die in this game start over from scratch — but with a fresh new chance to try again on a different planet.
We think it has legs and could see some huge growth in 2023.
If you’d like to play some of these games but don’t have the right hardware, we recommend checking out a gaming laptop or a gaming PC to help get you started.
REASONS TO PLAY:
- Fingerprint encryption
