Let’s put aside the task of building our own deck and opt for a pre-built one as we explore the finest Pokemon Theme Decks available.
Deck-building has always been an exciting and essential aspect of trading/collecting card games since the emergence of Magic: The Gathering.
However, sometimes players may lack the required time or good quality cards to create an effective deck to take on an opponent, even in a casual setting. Alternatively, they might want a deck to experiment with new strategies.
This is where Theme Decks come in handy as they offer a pre-constructed deck with a clear gameplay strategy that is typically suitable for casual play while still being competitive against most decks.
Although the Pokemon Theme Decks related to a particular set are now being replaced by V Battle Decks (since the Vivid Voltage set of the Pokemon Sword and Shield series), they can still be found in retail stores for now.
This is also a compilation of the pokemon TCG online best theme deck!
We’ve compiled a list of some of the best Pokemon Theme Decks that are currently available, so let’s take a closer look!
5. Pokemon TCG: Inteleon Theme Deck
While the Inteleon Theme Deck might appear unimpressive at first glance, it can actually be a surprisingly effective deck when utilized correctly.
The deck’s centerpiece is, naturally, Inteleon, which comes in an exclusive ‘cracked ice’ holo foil version, as well as a second copy in standard print.
When compared to the powerhouses featured in more recent V Battle decks, this deck may seem weak due to Inteleon’s underwhelming abilities.
However, the Inteleon Theme Deck has a reasonable speed element, as most of the included Pokemon can be powered up in a turn or two. Additionally, the deck is loaded with Water-type creatures.
The single Energy-type deck is highly susceptible to Electricity-type Pokemon, but the focus on a monotype helps ensure that you always have enough Energy to keep your moves powered up.
One of Inteleon’s coolest abilities is its ability to not only deal damage but also remove Energy from opposing Pokemon, which can significantly hinder your opponent.
Other Pokemon included in the deck, such as Mantine, Cramorant, Kingler, and Drednaw, provide backup and keep your Bench stacked.
While it may not be the best deck out there, if you’re a fan of Water-type Pokemon, the Inteleon Theme Deck could be a fun deck to take out on the waves!
4. Pokemon TCG: Zacian Theme Deck
The Zacian Theme Deck, part of the Rebel Clash expansion for Pokemon Sword and Shield, is dominated by Metal type cards, supplemented by some Colorless and a single Fighting type Pokemon (Nosepass), which uses only Colorless moves.
The deck boasts versatile cards that can be used effectively beyond its 60-card scope.
It is built around Zacian, the Legendary Pokemon from Pokemon Sword. Despite the risk of losing two energy from Zacian on a tails coin flip each time you use its 120 damage Smashing Edge attack, which requires two Metal and any other energy type, Zacian is quite strong.
Its Energy Stream attack requires one Metal and one Colorless energy and deals 30 damage, while also allowing you to re-attach a Metal energy card from your discard pile.
Zacian is a Basic Pokemon, so there is no need to evolve it. The deck includes two Zacian cards, as well as other Pokemon and excellent Supporter cards to provide support when required.
Zacian also features on our strongest Pokemon list.
3. Pokemon TCG: Zamazenta Theme Deck
Zamazenta is originally from the video game Pokemon Shield and is the ideal deck to use against Zacian due to Zacian’s risk of losing energy when using its main attack.
Similar to the Zacian deck, the Zamazenta deck comprises mostly Metal energy cards, with a combination of Metal and Colorless Pokemon.
However, the main card, Zamazenta, has a similar issue to Zacian with its Power Rush attack, which deals 120 damage but can prevent Zamazenta from attacking the next turn if the coin flip results in tails.
But, Zamazenta’s Guard Press attack, which costs one Metal and one Colorless energy, deals 30 damage while also protecting itself from 20 points of damage from the opponent’s next turn.
Additionally, the deck includes Duraludon, which can retrieve Metal energy from the discard pile to attach to any Metal Sharpener Pokemon and deals 30 damage to the opposing Pokemon.
Corviknight also adds to the deck’s strength with a 50-point attack and a 130-point attack that can reduce damage done to Corviknight by 100 if two energy cards are discarded.
Zamazenta is also featured on our list of the best dog Pokemon, and with such great reinforcements, the Zamazenta Theme Deck is an excellent choice!
2. Pokemon TCG: Charizard Theme Deck
Despite being centered around Charizard, a popular and formidable character in the game and on our list of strongest Pokemon cards, the Charizard Theme Deck (from the Sword and Shield series’ Vivid Voltage set) boasts another powerful card: Lugia.
The Legendary Pokemon, which first appeared in the second generation video game Pokemon Silver, is a valuable addition to this deck, especially when waiting to evolve your way to Charizard elsewhere.
Lugia’s Gust attack costs only one Colorless energy and deals 30 damage, while Energy Loop does 130 damage and moves an energy card from Lugia to your hand, allowing you to power up your other Pokemon.
Charizard itself has an ability that lets you check out the top three cards of your deck and put one in your hand once per turn, in addition to the card you draw each turn.
Royal Blaze is Charizard’s only attack, but it does 100 damage for just two Fire energy and an additional 50 for each Leon Trainer card in your discard pile.
With two Leon cards included in this pre-built deck, you have the potential to deal 200 damage for a mere two Fire energy.
While impressive, we believe that there is one recent Theme Deck that surpasses the Charizard Theme Deck, as you will soon discover!
1. Pokemon TCG: Galarian Darmanitan Theme Deck
Our pick for the best Pokemon Theme Deck comes from the Darkness Ablaze set of Pokemon Sword and Shield.
The deck is built around the ‘cracked ice’ version of Galarian Darmanitan, a powerful card with a unique feature – it comes in two different types! The deck includes two Water type Galarian Darmanitan cards and a Fire type Galarian Darmanitan card.
The Fire type Galarian Darmanitan has an excellent attack called Frozen Heat, which costs two Water and one Colorless energy and deals 110 damage.
Discarding all of its Water energy will add a further 60 damage to the attack. On the other hand, the Water type Galarian Darmanitan has an attack called Blizzard, which costs one Water and two Colorless energy and deals 80 damage while also hitting each of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon with an additional 10 damage.
But that’s not all – the Water type Galarian Darmanitan also has access to Crushing Headbutt, an attack that costs two Water and two Colorless energy and deals a massive 170 damage. However, this attack cannot be used two turns in a row.
And just like the Charizard Theme Deck, the Galarian Darmanitan Theme Deck has a hidden weapon: Suicune!
This powerful Pokemon has a 30 damage attack that costs just one Water energy, and an even more impressive attack called Aurora Loop, which costs two Water and one Colorless energy and deals 130 damage while also returning two Water energy cards from Suicune to your hand.
With its powerful cards and unique features, it’s clear that the Galarian Darmanitan Theme Deck is the best Pokemon Theme Deck available!
